Some new routes for Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2016

The Vasaloppet organization is, of course, working each year to develop and improve the Vasaloppet Arena. This summer we can therefore present some route changes in the cycling and running races. Here you can read more on these changes.

Cykelvasan 90 and Cykelvasan Öppet Spår
When it comes to Cykelvasan 90 and Cykelvasan Öppet Spår, 2 km have been redirected between Smågan and Mångsbodarna. Between these two classic checkpoints you will reach the track’s highest point, 525 metres above sea level, when passing the ”Boggskärloksvägen” road. Here, about 16 km from the start, you will find the new 2 km route, with a surface that can be compared to an old summer farm road, winding through scenic terrain and passing three marshy sections of a total of 200 metres. The race’s first plank road will be here. It is 3.5 metres wide and has been laid out to protect vulnerable ground. You will then see the Dysbodarna summer farm and finally reach the Ringnäsvägen road. (After that, there is about 3 km of gravel road before you roll on easy asphalt down to the Mångsbodarna checkpoint. Take extra care when exiting the asphalt section.) Green line on the map below shows the new route; red the old route.

Vasaloppet has a long-term plan to move Cykelvasan off roads with traffic. The first Cykelvasan in 2009 had half the course on roads with traffic and, after this year’s change, we are now down to 1.7 kilometres. From twelve intersections we’ve now gotten it down to only one, in Evertsberg. This year’s change does not affect the total length of the race, nor does it introduce any major difference in topography compared to previous years.

Vasastafetten and Ultravasan 90

Vasastafetten and Ultravasan 90 has a 4.5 km change after Mångsbodarna, moving onto a nice old path that is part of Vasaloppsleden (see image above). The whole Mångsbodarna–Risberg section is described as: ”Light downhill section in rocky terrain on a winding and partially rocky trail for 4.5 km to Tennäng. After that, heavy running on bark and gravel up a long, but not steep, slope to Risberg’s summer farm, with the final kilometre on a nice downhill path along the summer pastures. (Vasaloppsspåret + Vasaloppsleden)”

Green line on the map below shows the new route; red the old route.
