This week the number of entries for the 2012 Vasaloppet reached the registration ceiling, set at 15,800 participants. This means that Vasaloppet is once again fully booked and perhaps more popular than ever.
14 November 2009, 25 August 2010 and 30 May 2011; this shows the development over the last three years for when Vasaloppet has been fully subscribed.
“It’s really great that so very many have already decided to ski the classic Vasaloppet. Sad for those that didn’t manage to register in time, but the possibility to take on Öppet Spår is still there,” comments Jonas Bauer, Vasaloppet’s CEO.
There can be several reasons why the race is full, even before there has been much hint of summer warmth. Those that didn’t manage to enter last year were quick off the mark this year. There were first class conditions during the whole of Vasaloppet’s 2011 Winter Week, which also gives a positive effect in that many wish to repeat their experience.
“We thought, and indeed said so in the media, that Vasaloppet could be full just before Midsummer; but it can be that with the May salary in, many took the opportunity to register and enter before the increased entry fees from June 1,” says Jonas Bauer.
In total for Vasaloppet’s Winter Week’s nine races 2012, there are so far of 24,500 people registered, an increase of 40 % compared with the same time last year. Among the other races, it is KortVasan and TjejVasan which so far have the most entries. Even for StafettVasan we note that many teams are out in very good time, since there were a lot of teams who were too late to register for the 2011 race. The registration increase for StafettVasan is 200 %!
N.B. Registration of entries to the lower price is open up to & including 6 June. On account of technical problems with our website we are extending the possibility to register entries to all of our races which are not already fully booked.
