Vasaloppet’s Week passes dream boundary

Vasaloppet’s 2010 Winter Week is set to break all records!
“We have just received our 50,000^th registered entry and the clock is still ticking,” said Vasaloppet’s CEO Jonas Bauer last week. “The appetite for skiing is enormous right now.”

Vasaloppet’s Winter Week is launched with KortVasan on February 26 and rounded off with the classic Vasaloppet itself on Sunday March 7. Between these are TjejVasan, UngdomsVasan, Öppet Spår, HalvVasan, StafettVasan and SkejtVasan.

“There is a Vasalopp to suit all,” said Jonas Bauer. “It’s clear that people have discovered this now, bearing in mind these entry figures.”  

All the races show clear increases in numbers, but the biggest jump is seen in StafettVasan. Here the present position shows a 65% increase with almost 2,000 more skiers compared with 2009.    
“Even Öppet Spår, now in its 30^th anniversary year, shows a substantial increase with around 3,000 more participants to the two events than at the same time last year. Of course, that we’ve had a white winter over the whole country has certainly helped; but I’m also convinced that the fantastic 2009 Winter Week and the very marked attention around our Summer Week and CykelVasan has played a major part. We have this unique Vasalopps Arena all the year round, and this gives results.”   

The whole Vasaloppet organisation is now working at high pressure to be able to meet and take care of all participants in the best possible way. Above all work is in progress to ensure course and track quality. Right now transportation is underway from the Oxberg snow factory which has produced 50,000 cubic meters of “glide friendly” snow foundation. 

“We are extremely pleased and proud to be such a powerful motor for exercise and health,” said Jonas Bauer. “Our races have different distances and characteristics, but all of them are physical challenges which spur people on to training, and which give marvellous memories for a lifetime for all who make it to the finish. 50,000 means that one dream boundary is passed, but now we shall set the bar even higher!”
