Historic ambiance, choir singing, and a unique commemorative medal will mark the celebration of the 100th Vasaloppet

The 100th Vasaloppet will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2024 and it will, of course, be broadcast live on Swedish Television. The race is fully booked with 15,800 participants, and the fact that it's the 100th race will be celebrated in several different ways – from start to finish.

The celebration of the 100th race begins at the start location in Sälen with speeches and traditional herding calls before the classic start at 08:00.

At an additional checkpoint, beyond the seven regular Vasaloppet checkpoints, participants and spectators will be transported 100 years back in time. The checkpoint will be set up between Risberg and Evertsberg, just before the Evertsberg lakes, in a historical environment with open fires and torches. There will be pine branch decorations, functionaries in period clothing, and horses and sleds. The focus is on the experience, and no extra food or drinks will be served; participants can instead enjoy those at the regular Vasaloppet checkpoints.

Along the track towards Mora, the Falun men’s choir will cheer participants on and entertain them with beautiful singing. The choir consists of 10–15 members who, each year, ski Vasaloppet 30 in their tuxedos, stopping every other kilometre to sing for the passing skiers. On the Vasaloppet Sunday, participants in the 100th Vasaloppet will also enjoy their repertoire, consisting of traditional men’s choir songs, some with specially adapted Vasaloppet lyrics.Alongside the honour and cheers of the crowd, a unique commemorative medal designed with inspiration from older Vasaloppet medals awaits everyone who reaches the finish line. The medal features a skiing Gustav Vasa in the centre, with an inscription around the edge that translates into ”In memory of the hundredth Vasaloppet 2024.”

The commemorative medal comes in two variants; the one with a gold-coloured edge is a performance medal awarded to those who complete the race within the winning time
plus 50 percent in the women’s and men’s classes.
