Notice about Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2020 before Midsummer

The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing many summer sports events to cancel or postpone.
Vasaloppet is choosing to continue planning for the Summer Week, August 14-22 and to adapt the events to the new conditions.
"Of course we are also affected by the pandemic. Our goal is to run the races but we're not yet certain what shape that will take," says Eva-Lena Frick, Vasaloppet's CEO.

Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2020 consists of 13 races and has over 18,000 registered participants.
”We know that many are wondering what’s going to happen to the race you’re registered for. Unfortunately we don’t have all the answers today but we’re working to find the best possible solutions based on these new circumstances,” says Eva Lena Frick.

Among the alternatives currently being discussed to the standard Summer Week are everything from adapted races on location in the Vasaloppet Arena to fully digital races and different combinations of the two. Of course everything will be based on recommendations and guidelines from the authorities.

Final notice on how the Summer Week will work will be delivered no later than shortly before Midsummer.
”Before we make decisions we want to wait on new projections from the Public Health Agency of Sweden. We hope that you’ll have the patience to wait with us and that you’ll continue training in a safe way,” says Eva-Lena Frick.

Detailed information about Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2020 will be available at vasaloppet.se no later than June 18. If you’re registered for a race you’ll also receive information via email.

FAQ

Will you cancel or postpone Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2020 because of the current pandemic?
Our goal is to run the events. If the current ban on larger gatherings continues to apply then you will have a chance to complete your race in an alternative way. More information will come before Midsummer.

Why don’t you cancel now?
Before we make decisions we want to wait on recommendations for the summer from the authorities. Us, our partners, the owning clubs, the local business community, associations and participants all hope and want the Vasaloppet Summer Week 2020 to run in the Vasaloppet Arena, in some form.

Why is it not possible to register for Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2020?
Due to the pandemic we’ve currently paused registration for Cykelvasan, Ultravasan, Trailvasan 30, Vasastafetten and Vasakvartetten 2020. Registrations already made will of course stay in our system and registration for Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2021 is open as usual.

I’m registered for Vasaloppstrippeln 2020, what will happen to it?
If holding adapted events in the Vasaloppet Arena turns out to be impossible then Vasaloppstrippeln 2020 will sadly be scrapped. But you’ll be able to count your 2020 ski race as part of Vasaloppstrippeln 2021. If you’re registered for the Summer Week 2020 you’ll be able to move your start to the Vasaloppet Summer Week 2021.

Will I get my registration fee back if the races can’t run on location in the Vasaloppet Arena?
Yes, and you’ll also be able to choose from a number of other offers, including the possibility of moving your start to 2021. More information about this will come before Midsummer.
