Continued restrictions on the number of participants in exercise races

The covid-19 situation is improving and restrictions are easing, but only the elite can compete in the Vasaloppet Arena this August. What's the reason?
Vasaloppet CEO Johan Eriksson explains why and answers frequently asked questions about the upcoming summer.

Why not carry out the Vasaloppet Summer Week as planned?
Due to the corona pandemic, the current restrictions and the fact that no one knows for sure when things will ease up.

The government just announced that restrictions are expected to ease over the summer – will this change anything?
Unfortunately not. According to the government plan and forecast, exercise races may at most be allowed with a maximum of 900 participants in August, and we have over 15,000 registered participants. That is why we’re investing in Hemmavasan as a responsible, safe and flexible solution. You can complete it anytime and anywhere for most of the summer. In addition, we wanted to give our participants clear information as soon as possible, so that everyone has a decent chance to plan out their summer.

If all restrictions are eased earlier, in July, will Vasaloppet’s Summer Week go ahead as planned?
Our decision is final. We have made it based on the facts at hand, and making a quick change would not be possible in terms of arrangements, nor would we want to change things at the last minute for our participants.

Why not a summer version of Vasaåket?
The conditions and legal requirements look different, among other things because a bicycle is counted as a vehicle. It would also be very resource-intensive for the organization to extend the event over several summer weeks.

Why not move the event to the autumn?
For several reasons, but mainly because we would then enter the moosehunting season and we couldn’t hold events in the Vasaloppet Arena in the same way. There also wouldn’t be as many daylight hours.

Can you complete Hemmavasan in the Vasaloppet Arena?
Yes. The Vasaloppet Arena is open for hiking and exercise in both directions, so you can complete Hemmavasan there. Needless to say, the restrictions that apply throughout society also apply in the Vasaloppet Arena.

Vasaloppet’s summer events 2021
Due to covid-19 and current restrictions, only elite versions of Cykelvasan 90, Ultravasan 90 and Ultravasan 45 will be arranged in the Vasaloppet arena in August. Other races in Vasaloppet’s Summer Week 2021 will be replaced by Hemmavasan. As a participant in Hemmavasan, you can complete your race at any location during the period of July 3–August 22, 2021. Registration opens at 09:00 on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
